These exquisite jasper cabochons allowed me to pay homage to the beautiful butterflies! Perhaps the reverence in that inspiration even got me to work with opals again after having had a few catastrophes with them in the past! Ask any silversmith how temperamental opals can be and they’ll tell you they can be a challenge…..
I made a special tool out of an old vintage brass dart just for the special needs involved in setting an opal without shattering it, and it works great! The pairing up of the golden, pinkish color in these beautiful opals worked extremely well with the leopardskin jasper cabochons for this lovely pair of earrings.
I like the way these are a little dressy but can look great with jeans too. I added some great quality leverbacks to these for extra security in wear, so they will withstand active life much better. Give the opals a little drink every so often in a glass of water, or rub a little mineral oil or any quality face oil on them and they’ll be even happier.
