About Evitts Creek Arts

Inspired by Nature

My jewelry begins in the mountains of Western Maryland, where my studio is bordered by two creeks and surrounded by the Appalachian landscape. Each day, I’m inspired by the balance of strength and fragility in nature—rushing water, still pools, delicate plants, even the harshness of ice and floods. These rhythms of the natural world shape the textures and patterns that appear in my designs.

My Studio in the Mountains

Working from a small studio nestled in this rural landscape, I approach jewelry making as both art and craft. The quiet setting allows me to slow down and pay attention to detail, carrying the spirit of place into every piece I make.

A Craft Rooted in Printmaking and the Values of the 60’s and 70’s

My values were shaped in the 60’s and 70’s. Pushing back against conformity and driven by my intuition that authenticity was being lost to  commercialization, I felt compelled to carve out my own niche. I altered all my clothes in some way to make them unique to me and I was that girl that made jewelry out of objects such as feathers and handmade beads. Artisan fairs appealed to me far more than the newly created Malls.

My jewelry making process reflects the techniques I learned from making art, especially printmaking. I carve and press patterns into brass, then press those reversed textures into the sterling silver to invoke a feeling of nature. This process allows me to respect the environment while creating original  one-of-a-kind pieces.

Sterling Silver and Gemstones

I work primarily in with sterling silver, brass, and copper, pairing the metals with semi-precious gemstones that complement the natural forms in my designs. Whether it’s a necklace, ring, or pair of earrings, every piece is crafted to reflect the beauty of the natural world. I hope each creation brings a quiet sense of peace to the one who wears it.

Handmade Watercolor Painting of Evitts Creek

“I come into the presence of still water... and am free.” There is a restorative power in the slow, rhythmic changes of the seasons. In the studio, I aim to capture that same sense of quiet belonging found in the wild. Each piece of jewelry or painting is a study of what it means to rest in the beauty of the natural world—a small reminder of the peace we find when we simply stop to notice the beauty of the world around us.
